The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized over 80 lakh pieces of contraband yaba tablets from different parts of the country in June this year, said an official release, reports BSS.
BGB personnel in June last recovered a huge quantity of smuggled goods and illegal drugs worth about Taka 68.78 crore from different bordering areas, the release added.
The smuggled goods and contraband items included 80,20,723 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, 17,092 bottles of phensidyl, around 2.5 kg of heroin, 595 kg of cannabis, 12,969 bottles of foreign liquor, 1,12105 pieces of contraband injections, and 12,26,610 pieces of illegal tablets, 16,733 pieces of sarees, 4,034 pieces of three piece, 2,179 meter clothes, 509 readymade dresses, 34,021 CFT wood, and 1.170kgs of gold.
BGB personnel arrested 176 people for their suspected link to smuggle goods and drugs and arrested 106 Bangladeshi nationals for illegal trespass and handed them over to police.
They also captured 5 Indian citizens for illegally entering to Bangladesh territory. Four of them were handed over to Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while one to police station.
BGB personnel recovered smuggled goods and drugs worth about Taka 698.86 crore from different parts of the country from January to June this year.
