A police constable was injured as a pick up van carrying criminals crushed him under the wheels as he attempted to stop the vehicle at Banani in the capital city early yesterday. The injured constable Md Abbas Uddin is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Chest Disease and Hospital with critical wounds. Police arrested four persons -Nahid, 21, Abdul Haque, 19, Rafiqul Islam, 40, and Md Sukur Mia, 19, and seized the pickup van and a motorcycle. Banani police put a barricade on road in front of Navy Headquarters at Banani to stop the criminals as they were trying to escape after stealing a motorcycle from Dhan-mondi area, SI Farida Rahman of Banani told BSS. Soon after the pickup van of the criminals reached the Navy Headquarters, police constable tried to stop the vehicle, she said, adding, “It could not run away after crushing the cop under its wheel.”
