The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a chargesheet against eight individuals, including seven staff of the Chittagong Port Authority, for allegedly embezzling nearly Tk 35 lakh. The Commission at a recent meeting approved the proposal for submitting the chargesheet against them, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB. The accused have been identified as higher grade clerks of Chittagong Port Authority Shamol Krishna Bowmik and Pradeep Kumar Mohajan, departure assistant Adhir Kanti Chakrabartee, former assistant traffic inspector Saleh Jahor, suspended ASI Mizanur Rahman and security personnel Sagir Ahmed and Monir Ahmed, plus Barun Kanti Sen of C&F agent Albo Enterprise. According to the ACC investigation, goods worth Tk 35 lakh were stolen from Yard-1 of Chittagong Port in 2000, but all the accused in collusion with each other plundered the revenue worth Tk 35 lakh declaring false announcement of the goods. In February 2014, the ACC filed a case with Bandar Police Station in the port city in this regard. ACC deputy assistant director Khandaker Akheruzzaman carried out the investigation into the graft case.
