Bullet-hit Magura baby improving

The baby, who was injured by a bullet while in the mother’s womb, is improving slowly said doctors at the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Dr Ashraful Hoque, head of Pediatric Surgery Department of DMCH, said the baby drank her mother’s milk three times from morning till 7:00pm yesterday. However, due to weakness and other complications, the mother was not allowed to breastfeed her baby, he added.
“We are hopeful that by tomorrow or the day after, the mother will be able for breastfeed the baby,” said Ashraful Hoque. The baby’s father Bacchu Bhuyian said, “I, along with my wife, was allowed to see our baby at the ICU yesterday. However, other relatives who visited the hospital were not allowed there fearing the risk of infection.”
Imran Ahmed, brother of Nazma Akter told that Saifuzzaman Shekhor, the Assistant Private Secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also visited the DMCH and inquired about the treatment of the baby and her mother.
Meanwhile, talking to The Independent, AKM Ehsan Ullah, police superintend of Magura said they have arrested two more accused in the shooting case from Narayanganj district. They arrestees were identified as Sagor and Bappy, who were named as accused in the case. A Magura court has also placed both Sumon and Abdus Sobhan on one-day remand.
The baby, in her mother’s womb, was injured by a bullet when her mother Nazma Khatun, eight-month pregnant, got shot in the abdomen during a firefight between Juba League factions in Magura on July 23. After taken to the Magura General Hospital, both the mother and the baby survived a two-hour caesarean operation. The newborn was later shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
