Ruling Awami League leaders yesterday hailed BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon’s statement on Sunday that the party wants fresh elections instead of mid-term polls.
The AL leaders said that everything about conducting fresh elections was mentioned elaborately in country’s constitution and the BNP should not launch violent protests anymore for realising its demand for snap polls.
Addressing a discussion, the AL Advisory Council member, Suranjit Sengupta, said, “As per the constitution, the next election is due in 2019. Since the BNP wants a fresh election, they should not forge a violent movement to meet its demand.”
“We hail the BNP’s latest decision. We hope they will abide by their decision and take part in the next elections when they are due,” he said, while addressing a discussion organised by the Nouka Samarthak Gushti at the Diploma Engineers Institute in the city.
The senior AL leader said that the BNP is facing a severe crisis for which the party is taking different decisions at different times. Now, they are demanding fresh elections. Maybe, a few days later they might a launch a movement to meet its demand for mid-term elections.
