South Africa lost five rating points after the drawn series against Bangladesh albeit they stay at the top of ICC Test rankings. The whole Test series, consisted of two matches, was affected by unrelenting rain, allowing just four days of cricket in 10 days. It meant the Proteas lost five rating points to be reduced to 125 points, playing just four days which is enough to force South Africa captain Hashim Amla express his disappointment over the ranking system.
Amla however expected that the ICC would look at the system of the series which was rained out to a draw.
“It’s a difficult one to understand really. You can understand if it’s a 1-1 draw where you have played enough cricket to make a true reflection,” he said.
“So perhaps this is something that can be relooked at from the ICC perspective. All teams would want something that is fair and something that would apply to all teams so I mean us losing points seems a little strange considering we haven’t played a lot of cricket but I am sure that’s something the ICC will probably have a look at.”
South Africa started of the tour with good note whitewashing Bangladesh in two match Twenty20 series but lost their first ever ODI series to the hosts by 2-1 after winning the first ODI. Bangladesh on the other hand took their ranking point to 47 after gaining six.
