A second leg match of the ongoing Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League between Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra and Farashganj Sporting Club was abandoned when the latter refused to play protesting a referee decision yesterday.
The match held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium was stopped after13 minutes after Farashganj official Selim Khan refused to accept a referee yellow
card decision.
The dispute arose when the referee pointed to the dreaded spot after Farhazuzzaman Babu of Farashganj made a bad tackle to Russel’s captain Mithun Chowdhury inside the box. Ikanga converted the spot-kick but the referee whistled for a re-kick as Mithun crossed the line of small-box before Ikanga taking the kick. By this time, Russel’s striker Kingsley Chigozie elbowed Farashganj defender Mahafuz Babu and referee Jasimuddin showed yellow card to Kingsley.
At this stage Farashganj official Selim Khan, chairman of the Farashganj Club’s football committee, called the players out of the ground and asked them to protest against the referee decision. Khan demanding of a red card against Kingsley.
Later Selim Khan rushed to the Press Box and said that he had asked his players to protest against referee’s decision and not to play, if the referee does not show red card to Kingsley.
