The way Bangladesh performed throughout the series against South Africa was quite well for them and gave a confidence ahead of the series against Australia but they had some areas to improve, said Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud Sujan.
Sujan also said that it would be better for them if they could play the Test matches against the top-ranked Test team on regular basis.
“There is no control over the weather. But it’d be better if the game is played. I feel sad to think that we got an opportunity to play against the top-ranked South Africa but we couldn’t play properly. We missed the last two days of the first Test and another four days of the Dhaka Test,” said Khaled Mahmud yesterday.
“The series was a matter of learning for our bowlers especially for youngster like Mustafiz, Shahid, Taijul and Likhon. It’d be helpful for them if they could perform. After the World Cup, we finished three exciting series victories especially in one-day. We also played well in Test though we lost Test to Pakistan. Overall, we played good cricket and quite happy the way we finished the year,” Sujan added.
The former skipper sees Tigers’ first innings lead against the Proteas in Chittagong Test as a morale victory.
“We’ve played a tough series against the No.1 Test team. But we’re happy the way we took the first inning lead in Chittagong. We felt we’d chance to do a bit better than that. Actually we have to move forward in Test learning from these small mistakes. We couldn’t perform as per our expectation in Test. But I see it’s as morale victory to take the lead against a team like South Africa. From the Test performance, a good confidence has been built up amongst the players,” he thought.
He said that the players should pay more concentration on their individual innings and stay long period at wickets to extend their small innings for the team’s success.
“We had a big achievement to take the lead against South Africa. We could contain them within 250 by our young-bowling unit, was also an achievement. But we had chance to do our batting well a bit. Some of our set-batsmen were dismissed for the scores of 30, 40 and 60. They could not extend it further due to the lack of concentration,” he pointed out.
