Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), a state-owned financial Institution, yesterday signed agreements with five different organisations at its headquarters in Karwanbazaar for R&D activities relating to renewable energy.
Mahmood Malik, chief executive officer of IDCOL, Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, head of renewable energy of IDCOL, Farzana Rahman, unit head (Investment) of IDCOL and other officials were present on behalf of the financial institution. In January, IDCOL had published a Request for Expression of Interest (REoI), inviting local entities (universities, research institutes, firms, NGOs, individuals etc.) to submit EoI for conducting R&D on renewable energy/ energy efficiency technologies.
IDCOL has selected six proposals out of 79 proposals submitted for R&D activities relating to solar-powered rickshaw van, solar-powered boat, solar charging stations, DC nano grid, characterisation of dye sensitised solar cell using natural dye and solar hydrogen production via water splitting by using locally synthesised nano-particles.
Research on these areas will be conducted by BRAC University, United International University (UIU), Solar E Technology Australia Pty Ltd., Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET).
Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Malik stressed the increasing importance of renewable energy. IDCOL is willing to support research and development (R&D) activities with a view to improving the existing renewable energy technologies and exploring other viable renewable energy options in Bangladesh, he said.
