Mobile, internet subscribers rise significantly in 13 months
The number of mobile, internet subscribers increased significantly during June 2014 and June 2015.
According to Bangladesh telecommunication Regulatory Commission data, the number of mobile subscribers increased to 126.866 million in June from was 116.553 million in June 2014.
Also the number of internet users was up notably during the same period. The total number of internet users increased by 90 lakh to 48.347 million from 37.923 million in June 2014.
But, the subscribers of broadband wireless internet declined during the same period and also Code division multiple access (CDMA) saw decline in number of users, the BTRC
The largest mobile operator of the country Grameenphone registered 53.129 million subscribers in June 2015 from 49.233 million in June 2014 while Robi Axiata limited logged 27.368 million in June 2015 compared to 24.018 million in June 2014.
And, Airtel Bangladeshs users increased to 27.368 million from 24.018 million and Banglalinks subscribers moved up to 32.224 million from 29.751 million during the same period.
Teletalks subscribers increased to 4.216 million from 3.595 million while Citycell marked a decline in number of subscribers to 1.187 million from 1.540 million during June 2014 and June 2015.
Also internet users through mobilephone increased to 46.899 million in June 2015 from 36.412 million in June 2014 while WiMAX users declined to 180,000 in June 2015 from 280,715 in June of previous year.
