Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to organise the franchisee-based Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) in the third week of September ahead of the next home series against Australia.
The Aussie are scheduled to land here in Dhaka on September 28, 11 days prior to the onset of the Test series.
Middle-order batsman Mahmudullah Riyad revealed the planning of the BCB about the start of the first class competition before the
Australia series during a press conference yesterday.
“I’ve heard the news today’s morning. I think it will be helpful for us if we could play the tournament before playing the two-match Test series against Australia. We couldn’t get to play proper cricket against South Africa due to showers. It would be a good preparation for us if the tournament takes place ahead of the Test series against Australia,” Mahmudullah said.
Director Akram Khan, who is also the chairman of BCB tournament committee, acknowledged the matter and said that they are planning to stage the tournament before the Australia series.
“We’re looking to start the BCL (longer version) within September 15. Australia are slated to come on September 28. So, we want to give them the opportunity to play not to the entire tournament but at least one or two rounds ahead of the next home series,” said Akram Khan.
The former skipper said that they will soon meet with the franchisees within next the next few days for discussing.
