The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday released the itinerary of the home series against Australia who will play two Tests against Bangladesh in October.
Australia are supposed to play these two Tests and three ODIs in 2011, just after the ICC World Cup but they didn’t manage time to play Test series that time. During that period they just played three-match ODI series and told at some point they would make up playing these two Tests in Bangladesh. However it needed four years for them to give Bangladesh a schedule.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon some days ago told in a private television channel that he would talk to the Cricket Australia to convince them playing an ODI series also. However it didn’t happen.
Australia will arrive on September 28 for a 25-day long tour. It will be their only second Test series in Bangladesh. After landing in the country they will be training in Dhaka for four days and will play a three-day practice match in Fatullah from October 3 to 5.
They will then travel to Chittagong to play the first Test from October 9 to 13 before the second Test from October 17 to 21 in Dhaka. Australia’s only Test tour of Bangladesh previously was in 2006 when they played two games in Fatullah and Chittagong. They also came to play a three-match ODI series in 2011.
Bangladesh toured Australia twice too, in 2003 to play two Tests and three ODIs, and in 2008 for three ODIs.
The two sides have played four Test matches with Australia winning every one of them. Bangladesh’s only victory against Australia came in an ODI at Cardiff in 2005.
Tour Itinerary:
Oct 3-5: Warm-up match v BCB XI, Khan Shaheb Ali Osmani Stadium, Fatullah
Oct 9-13: First Test - Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong
Oct 17-21: Second Test - Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka
