The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has noticed some of the contracted first class players’ participation in the local cricket in USA along with banned player Mohammad Ashraful.
The team, named Bangladesh Tigers’ led by Ashraful played in the tournament, titled, Diversity Cup. First class players like Elias Sunny and Nadif Chowdury were also playing in Ashraful’s team, forcing BCB to draw the attention.
The general norm is to seek the No Objection Certificate (NOC) before participating in any tournament in and off the country. But those players didn’t ask for any NOC to the BCB.
“The ban on Ashraful is within the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Cricket Board. The tournament or match you are referring is outside our jurisdiction,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the reporters yesterday.
“The players within our first-class contract who have participated in an unauthorised cricket event without board’s permission or without NOC, will be addressed in accordance with the board’s policy,” he said, disclosing that they would be punished according to the board’s rules and regulation.
The BCB however has been trying to sort out what type tournament it is where the players played.
“It won’t be right to comment whether it is disapproved cricket or not. What we understand is that this is not official cricket. Whether this is a neighborhood tournament, we have to find out.”
This sort of incident however has been happening frequently, raising a question whether the BCB informed the players about the board’s guideline properly. The players have got a book addressing about the ‘code of conduct’ but it is alleged that most of the players never go through it properly.
Some days ago, national player Sabbir Rahman Rumman took part in celebrity cricket when the Test match against India was going on. Though he was not in the Test team, as a national player he was not supposed to play.
“We have to look into the board’s guidelines exactly and then we can comment on it. Since it is happening frequently, we will closely monitor it. We can talk about it after seeing what we can do for prevention.”
