BNP member collection drive from July 1

UNB

As part of its move to strengthen the party’s organisational capacity, BNP is going to start a two-month-long membership collection and renewal programme on July 1 next, reports UNB. BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office. He said though their party used to take programmes every year to collect new members and renew the primary membership, the party could not do it for a few years for various reasons, including the anti-government movement.
“We’re now going to launch this programme in our all city, district, thana and municipality units on July 1, and it will continue until September 1,” the BNP leader said.
Rizvi said though Eid-ul-Fitr is approaching very fast, the country’s people are not in happy mode due to unusual hike of rice and essential prices.
“People have to now buy per kg coarse rice at Tk 50-55. The common people are facing serious difficulties to buy new dresses for their children.” He alleged that the ruling party men who plundered thousands of crores of taka have been on a shopping spree abroad. “We’ve heard they’ve gone to Singapore, Bangkok and Kolkata for shopping instated of visiting local markets.” Referring to media reports, the BNP leader said nearly 2 lakh Bangladeshis went to Kolkata and other Indian cities for eid shopping. About the proposed budget for fiscal year 2017-18, Rizvi said it was formulated to suck people’s blood. “People will burst into anger if it is passed (by parliament). BNP also won’t sit idly then.”
