BRUR proposes Tk 39.68 crore budget
The Finance Committee of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in Rangpur yesterday proposed annual budget of Taka 39.68 crore for the university for 2017-2018 financial year. The proposal came at the meeting held at the conference room of administrative building. Vice- chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BTFO, presided over the meeting as Treasurer (Current Charge) of the university.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts of BRUR Professor Dr Saidul Haque, Registrar Muhammad Ibrahim, Director of the Finance and Accounts Division of University Grants Commission (UGC) Md Mizanur Rahman and other members of the Finance Committee attended the meeting.
UGC nominates 4 as professors, 70 as PhD fellows
University Grants Commission (UGC) yesterday nominated four renowned researchers as UGC professors for two years and 70 teachers of different public universities and government colleges as UGC Ph.D fellows for next three years.
The commission nominated the UGC professors and Ph.D fellows at a meeting held at the commission office in the capitals Agargaon with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the chair, said an UGC press release. A UGC professor will receive a monthly honorarium, which shall be equivalent to the highest monthly salary of a selection grade professor. A UGC professor will be attached to a university or an approved research institution of his or her choice.
The nominated UGC professors are: Professor Dr M Muhibur Rahman of Chemistry Department, Dhaka University, Professor Dr Md Abul Mansur Chowdhury and Jamal Nazrul Islam of Mathematics and Physical Science Research Centre, Chittagong University, Professor Selimur Rahman of Hepatology Department, Bangabandhuy Shiekh Mujib Medical University and Professor Dr M Alfaz Uddin of Physics Department, Rajshahi University. According to UGC professorship guideline, retired renowned researchers of Bangladesh are given UGC professorship.
Besides, this year, a total of 72 teachers of different public universities and government colleges applied for UGC Ph.D fellowship. Among them 70 were nominated as UGC Ph.D fellow. The number of UGC Ph.D fellow was 50 last year while the number of applicants was 65. A Ph.D fellow will receive Taka 15,000 per month in next three years as the amount of fellowship has been increased to Taka 15,000 from Taka 10,000.
UGC Members Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, and Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farzana Islam and Research Support and Publication Division Director Md. Shamsul Alam were present at the meeting, among others, the release added.
Canadian envoy attends convention of Canadian International School
Canadian International School Bangladeshs annual convocation of 2017 was held at a hotel in the capital recently.
Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Benoit-Pierre Laramee presented the certificate in the convocation of the students as the chief guest, said a press release on Friday.
Canadian School Principal Bruce Davis, Chairman Md Kamal Uddin and Chief Executive Officer Shirin Jahan were present. Dr Zubaidur Rahman also attended as a guest of honor in the convocation. Chairman of Canadian International School Bangladesh Kamal Uddin said that CIS has been committed to teaching quality in the medium of English medium and maintaining international standards. Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Benoit-Pierre Laramee said Canadian International School has brought a positive change in the English medium education system in Bangladesh.
