Sources said that this fever especially affected the people in rural areas more than the urban sides. Children are especially vulnerable to the viral fever. Due to the situation, Khulna Shishu Hospital’s each bed meant for a single child now has to accommodate two patients, while several others, mostly less than four years old, are kept on the floor in the room. This highly contagious form of viral fever is making the patients feeble and weak with a high temperature, continuous cough, sneezing and a bone-breaking pain all over the body. Usually, a patient attacked with such viral fever suffers for three to seven days. Meanwhile, there are reports of people affected with viral fever having 102-105 degree Fahrenheit with severe headache. The patients of all ages attacked with viral fever and other diseases are coming to the hospitals, the clinics and health centres for treatment; however, there was no report of death as yet.  The selling of anti-viral drugs like Napa (paracetamol) and drugs of high antibiotic groups has been increased tremendously in the drug stores all over the city and district. Senior Consultant of Khulna Shishu Hospital Dr Quamruzzaman blamed, “Different diseases including typhoid, pneumonia, diarrhea and viral fever see increase during change of weather and children sbecome the worst suffers. Those who do manual labour in the rain also are attacked with various diseases.” Farhana Parveen, mother of one year old son S’aad Hossain, hailed from Labonchara in the city said, “My son has been suffering from fever for the last five days. My husband admitted him to the Shishu Hospital yesterday as his condition deteriorated.” Civil Surgeon of Khulna district Dr Yasin Ali Sardar said, “In the case of viral fever, we are using Paracetamol with complete bed rest, liquid diet and drinking sufficient quantities of water. Some rare case we use another medicine with that.” In a query he replied, “There are enough supply of medicine at all the hospitals and the patients are getting proper treatment there.” Superintendent of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) Dr Proshanto Kumar said there is nothing to be worried with this viral fever.
