Removal of SUST VC

Teachers deny going back to work

Teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology(SUST), who are under movement demanding removal of its VC, has refused to work under VC Aminul Haque Bhuyan and will not go back to their administrative posts until the VC resigns. A letter was sent to the university registrar yesterday noon regarding the matter. Registrar Mohammad Ishfaqul Hussain has ensured the integrity of the letter. Teachers also announced to bring out a rally tomorrow (Tuesday) on the campus with the same demand. According to sources, on Thursday last, a letter was to be provided to the agitated teachers urging them to start working again which was signed by the Registrar Mohammad Ishfaqul Hussain.
Meanwhile, yesterday the resigned teachers sent a counter letter to the Registrar in response to the letter. They informed of not going back to the office. Sources said, on April 13 of running year, a faction of pro-Awami League teachers under the banner of "Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Parishad" started demonastration demanding resignation of its VC Professor Dr Aminul Haque Bhuyan from his post charging against him of corruption, allegations of nepotism, and misconduct. At a stage on April 20, 35 teachers resigned from 37 administrative posts and announced a list of agenda on this. On April 23, VC called an Emergency Syndicate meeting in the awakened situation and took two months leave. But the teachers were confined in their position. They again started demonstration from June 18. On June 22 VC returned after a two-month leave to take up office work but the agitated teachers confined him in office and started sit-in programme locking the main entrance of VC office which continued up to July 12. On June 25, the agitated teachers published a white paper against its vice-chancellor mentioning that he was involved with corruption, nepotism, financial opacity, irregularity and also misbehaved with teachers. On the other hand, another section of pro-Awami teachers took side with the VC.  From June 29 unit BCL started to stage demonstration and sit-in programme. General student’s faced off the agitated teachers demanding to unlock the VC office and protesting the conspiracy that is disrupting the condition of the campus.  On July 23, agitated teachers postponed their sit-in programme after a meeting with education minister in his office. But on July 29 teachers brought out a procession and rally with the same demand but at last, teachers were denied to go back to their office for announcement of a new programme. The spokesman of agitated teachers Syed Shamsul Alam has also to ensure the integrity of the letter and said that they do not work under VC Aminul Haque Bhuyan. They are thinking of joining the office only when a new VC is appointed.
