BSS

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon yesterday underscored the need for including the history of emergence of Bangladesh in curricula of colleges, public and private universities to glorify the history of the country, reports BSS.
"The present generation is gradually becoming rootless because of their disinterest to history. They do not know glorious past of Bangalee nation. They have very little knowledge about the emergence of Bangladesh and they are not disinterested to practice mother tongue," he said.
But youths of the country, the minister said, led the Language Movement in 1952, Education Commission Movement in 1962, Mass Upsurge in 1969 and Liberation War in 1971 and created an independent Bangladesh.
Menon was addressing as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the annual international conference of Bangladesh Itihas Parishad at Dhaka University Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan inaugurated the conference with Itihas Parishad Vice-President and DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
The minister said history is the mirror of time. "History must be known to realize the present. History upholds emergence, progress and flourishing of a nation," he added.
Menon underscored the need for reviving the forgotten episodes of both regional and local glories in the history books to enrich the national history.
