Documentary ‘Batighar’ premiered

The 80th birthday celebration of Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Dr Anisuzzama and the premiere show of ‘Batighar’, a documentary film based on the life and work of Dr Anisuzzama, were held on Friday at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in the capital.
Presided over by former secretary Dr Mohammad Abdul Majid, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith attended the event as chief guest and former vice chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University Professor Pabitra Sarkar was present as special guest. Besides, Jayashree Kundu, first secretary of Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, also attended the screening of ‘Batighar’. Professor Anisuzzaman was expected to attend the programme, but due to illness, he could not attend the screening. He sent a recorded message thanking everyone. His wife Siddiqua Zaman attended the programme.
In separate messages, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Indian actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay, among others, wished Professor Anisuzzaman.
Eminent cultural activist and documentary-maker Masud Karim, who made the documentary ‘Batighar’, delivered welcome speech at the programme and highlighted the background of the documentary.
The shooting of the documentary took place in London, Kolkata and different cities of Khulna in Bangladesh. Alongside the family members of Dr Anisuzzaman, renowned personalities from two Bengals assessed Dr Anisuzzaman from their own point of views.
Moreover, veteran Indian actor Soumitra Chatterjee recited a poem written by Dr Anisuzzaman for the documentary. In the documentary, an interview of Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has also been included, who has a deep relationship spanning over more than sixty years with Dr Anisuzzaman. He assessed Professor Anisuzzaman from his own point of view. The documentary ‘Batighar’ has solely been financed by Masud Karim, which now saw its screening on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Dr Anisuzzaman on February 17. Eventually, it will be screened in Kolkata, Tokyo and London.
