The wedding ceremony of ace swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila, the first Bangladeshi to win two gold medals in the South Asian (SA) Games, is going to be held at her Nawapara industrial town residence at 1:30pm today. Her groom Shajahan Ali Rony is another gold medal winning swimmer. He is an Army man and son of late Afsar Ali and Sajenur Begum of Rehaichar in Chapainawabganj district. Podiums for the bride and the bridegroom have already been set up at Shila’s residence, where 1,200 guests can be accommodated, said Hasan Gazi, elder brother of Shila. A 25–member committee, headed by businessman Rezaul Hossain Biswas and Dr Julfiqur Ahmed, was formed by the neighbours for organising the wedding ceremony, said Pro. Jobayer Hossain, a member of the committee. Lawmaker, administrator of Jessore district council, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, officials of swimming federation, Naval officials, journalists and elites of the society have been invited to attend the wedding ceremony, Prof Jobayer added. Shila took part over 10 international games and so many national events and bagged over 50 gold medals.
