After seven long years, popular singer couple Shammi Akhter and Akramul Islam will perform together at a musical programme today at the auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM), Shahbag in the city. Cultural organisation ‘Amra Surjomukhi’ has organised the event to celebrate its 40th founding anniversary. Besides, Mohidul Islam will recite at the programme. Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi will be present as chief guest, while Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique will inaugurate the programme. Besides, cultural personality Lucky Inam and noted singer Fatema Tuz Zohra will attend the programme as special guests.
To note, Shammi Akhtar stayed away from the music scene due to cancer. After recovering from her illness, she came back to singing after her recovery. She does not only sing modern and patriotic songs, she has also been recognised and awarded for her playback. She won National Film Award for her playback in the film ‘Bhalobashlei Ghor Bandha Jay Na’.
On the other hand, Akramul Islam has become popular for many of Hasan Raja songs. l
