Two dockyard owners, 11 boats fined Tk 5.50 lakh

A mobile court of Chittagong District Administration yesterday fined Tk 5,55,000 to owners of two dockyards and 11 boats at Karnaphuli river bank for operating the dockyard illegally. The court led by executive magistrate Mohammad Abul Hashem, also sentenced to one month rigorous imprisonment to a truck driver for entering illegally in Chittagong port area. The Truck driver was identified as Abul Bahar, son of Abdur Razzak, hailed from Noakhali.
 “The court fined Tk 1 lakh to Abdul Hamid owner of the Nusrat Jahan dockyard and Tk1 lakh to Hazi Sheikh Ahmed owner of Nur-e-Madina dockyard for making lighterage ships and fishing boats operating dockyard on the bank of Kharnphuli river for long time without any permission. The court also sentenced to three months’ imprisonment to the dockyard owners if they failed to pay the fine and ordered to shift their dockyards within a week,” said Rajib-Ul-Ahashan, executive magistrate (Media) of Chittagong District Administration. Besides, for violation of Inland Shipping Ordinance1976 the mobile court fined MV Udoyer Pothe-4, MV Haider Ali, MV Sea Link Ananda, MV Mohsen Awalia, MV Ashraful Alam, MV Malek-1, MV Southern Star-5, MV TS-1, MV Borshon-6, MV P&T and some boats TK 3,55,000. During the mobile court realised Tk 1, 44,000 of dues of Chittagong Port Authority.
