‘Fagun Haway’ wins two awards in Colombo

Renowned actor-turned-director Tauquir Ahmed’s film titled ‘Fagun Haway’ – ‘In spring Breeze’, based on the 1952 Language Movement, won two awards at the 9th edition of the SAARC Film Festival, in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka. The six-day film festival was concluded this Sunday.

Organised by the SAARC Cultural Centre, ‘Fagun Haway’ received the awards under different categories, namely-- Best Cinematography (Enamul Haque Sohel), and Best Sound Design category (Ripon Nath).

Produced by Impress Telefilm, the film is inspired by Tito Rahman’s ‘Bau Kotha Kao’ short story based on the Language Movement.

Actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha plays the lead role with new generation actor Siam Ahmed in the film ‘Fagun Haway’. Renowned actors Abul Hayat, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Roonak Hasan, Faruque Ahmed, Saju Khadem and Shahadat Hossain are also part of the cast in the film.

In this year’s SAARC Film Festival, five films from Bangladesh, including two feature films and two short films participated in the festival.

Two full-length films- ‘Fagun Haway’ and ‘Komola Rocket’ had been selected from Bangladesh in Feature Films category, while Nasiruddin Yusuff Bachhu directed ‘Alpha’ was selected in the Master Films category.

To note, Tauquir Ahmed achieved the best screenplay award for the film ‘The Unnamed’ (Oggatonama) in the 7th edition of the SAARC Film Festival in 2017 and won four awards, including the Best Feature Film award, at the competition segment of the 8th Saarc Film Festival in 2018.
