National Consumers' Right Protection yesterday fined Tk four lakh to an outlet of Aarong (a retail chain) and closed it for a day for selling same products in double price within a gap of five days. During a drive, the body fined the sartorial outlet in Uttara. Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, deputy director of Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection led the drive. He said that a consumer brought a set of panjabi at a price of Tk 713 on May 25. The same product was sold at Tk 1315 on May 31. After getting such allegation, the consumer watchdog conducted a drive and found the allegation valid. Monjur Mohammad said that we removed the price tags of two panjabies and asked the outlet authorities to tell the difference of prices but they could not properly explain it.
So they were fined for selling low price products at high prices by changing the tags and we ordered to close the outlet for 24 hours.
He said that it’s an illegal activity for manipulating the price to deceive the consumers. So the authority of the outlet had been fined for fraudulence of prices.
