The prevailing spell of heatwave is likely to continue at some regions across the country. It may spread further in the next three to four days. Besides, rains or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty wind, are likely to occur at a few places over the country during the period.

According to a bulletin by the Met Office, a mild heatwave is sweeping over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Kushtia and Mongla. It may spread further. It also stated that day temperature may rise by 1-2 degree(s) Celsius and night temperature

may rise slightly.  Abdur Rahman, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said the current temperature will remain stable in the next three to four days.

“But there is a possibility of rain from June 1, which may continue for five to six days,” he added. The Met Office forecast yesterday said rains/thunder showers, accompanied by temporary gusty wind, are likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet  and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka  and Khulna divisions.

However, the weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it added.

The highest temperature yesterday was 37.5 degrees Celsius at Rajshahi and Chuadanga in Khulna. The minimum temperature was 22.0 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat in Rangpur.

The blistering and high humidity made life unbearable for city dwellers. Saiful Islam, a Dhaka resident, complained that it is getting difficult to commute to work during Ramadan because of the unbearable heat.

The Met office recorded the country’s highest rainfall (71mm) in Srimangal in Sylhet division in the last 24 hours.

The wind speed at Dhaka was expected to be South/ Southwesterly (10-15) kph. The sun sets at 6:40pm today and rises at 5:12am tomorrow in the capital.
