RAJSHAHI: Members of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) brought out a huge rally in the city vowing to stand against all sorts of drug-addictions and violence against women including dowry, reports BSS. As part of a 10-day training practice being held at the playground of New Government Degree College, 1 and 5 Mohasthan Battalions under BNCC Mohasthan Regiment organised the rally aimed at creating awareness about the curse of drug-addiction and other social diseases like dowry and violence against women.
Regiment Commander-in-Charge Major Mahbubur Rahman, Lt Col Shehnaz Yeasmin from 1 Mohasthan Battalion, Major Mohsin Ali from 5 Mohashthan Battalion, Captain Dr Mofijuddin Mollah and Lt Shariful Islam were present on the occasion.
More than 262 cadets of senior, junior and women divisions from 29 educational institutions in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore and Pabna districts took part in the rally parading main thoroughfares carrying banners, festoons and placards written with various slogans against drug-addiction. Some army officers, territorial force officers, professor under officers and teachers also joined. Addressing a post-rally discussion, Lt Col Shahnaz Yeasmin urged the cadets to forge social movement against the drug addiction to make their respective areas free from the curse. Terming the using of drug and narcotics as social curse she emphasized the need for a concerted effort of all quarters so that the society will be freed from the irritation. She mentioned that the number of drug users including the injecting ones is increasing gradually along with different other social crimes due to various reasons creating a grave concern in the society. “The situation might reach to an epidemic form if the number of the drug addicts and the injecting drug users in particular are not addressed drastically”.
