Bangladesh gets first female major general

For the first time in the country, a woman military officer in army medical corp Professor Brigadier General Susane Giti has been promoted to the rank of Major General Bangladesh. Susane Giti, a Hematology specialist and now posted to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) as its commandant.

Chief of army staff General Aziz Ahmed and Quarter Master General (QMG) Lieutenant General Shamsul Haque has adorned rank badge of major General to Major General Susane Giti at the Army Headquarters yesterday. “A new era started in the Bangladesh Army by promoting Susane Giti to the rank of major general,” says the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement issued yesterday.

Susane Giti is a Rajshahi Medical College graduate and she joined the Army as a captain in 1986 under the Medical Corp

of Bangladesh Army. Maj Gen became the first woman to receive her FCPS in Hematology in 1996 and she is now chief of the Pathology department at the Armed Forces Medical College, the release added.

She also served in UN Peacekeeping Missions. Her husband Bg Gen (retd) Asadullah Md Hossain Saad was an army doctor.
