The number of tenders invited through electronic government procurement (e-GP) system has crossed two lakh mark, reports BSS.
The e-GP is an effort of the government to digitize public procurement for enhancing transparency and accountability in spending public funds.
The number of total tenders invited through e-GP stood at 2,01,391 yesterday which total value was more than Tk 1.79 lakh crore (US$22.38 billion), said a press release of the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) under the Ministry of Planning.
Since its introduction in 2011, the e-GP system has grown very fast. Among 1,324 government procuring agencies, 1,253 were connected to e-GP until September 11 and the number of tenderers registered with the system stood at 48,043.
About 4,000 branches of total 45 banks having separate MoUs with CPTU are receiving e-GP payments both online and off-line across the country. To provide support to all concerned e-GP Help Desk (16575) is working 24/7 at CPTU.
The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) under the Ministry of Planning has been implementing e-GP in Bangladesh with the assistance of World Bank.
