A case has been filed against MP Showkat Hasanur Rahman (Rimon) with a court here for allegedly extorting money and gold ornaments from a local Awami League leader, reports UNB from Barguna. Md Idris Chowdhury, president of district Tanti League and general secretary of Rayhanpur union AL, filed the case with the Speedy Trial Court on Sunday.
Bashir Miah, son of Selim Fakir of the union, has also been made accused in the case for abetting in the ‘crime’.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the court ordered the officer-in-charge of Patharghata Police Station to investigate the matter and submit a report to the court in this regard.
According to the case statement, Hasanur Rahman , lawmaker of Barguna-2 constituency, demanded Tk 10 lakh from Idris.
As Idris refused to pay, the MP along with his associate Bashir snatched gold ornaments and Tk 96,500 from him on August 18 at gunpoint, the complainant claimed.
