Madrasa teacher held over kidnapping student

Elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday rescued a Madrasa student from the capital and arrested his teacher over kidnapping. Later, the arrested teacher, who is also the Madrasa teacher, confessed to his involvement with kidnapping who he used to provide tuition.

A team of RAB-3 rescued the student from his captivity from Dhaka’s Airport Railway Station; Rabiul Islam, Squad Commander of RAB-3 confirmed it to The Independent.

The arrestee, Mainul Islam, 24, a teacher of a Madrasa in Noakhali’s Sonapur area kidnapped Sameer, 8, one of his former students, in Dhaka, the RAB official said.

Rabiul Islam said that Moinul Islam provided tuition to Sameer for last one year. Three months ago he got a job in a Madrasa in Noakhali. But he was keeping in touch with Sameer’s family through mobile phone.

He came again to Dhaka and kidnapped Sameer from Madhubagh and took him to a friend's house at Airport Railway Station.

"The accused said in initial interrogation that after getting into his friend's house with Sameer, his friend wanted to know about the child. He introduced Sameer as his relative. The arrestee also informed Sameer’s family about the ransom over SMS and phone call.

He left a ransom note for Tk 50,000 inside the microbus that Sameer’s father Kawsar Ahmed drives for livelihood.

He further said, "In initial interrogation, the accused also admitted that his friend did not know anything about this incident. He alone did the kidnapping plan. ‘

Later Kawsar sought help from RAB. The elite force members later lured the kidnapper of giving the ransom money at the Airport Railway Station through Kawsar and arrested him.

Rabiul Islam further said the accused had passed Hafez from Nurani Talimool Quran Madrasa of Mohammadpur in the capital. He also studied up to the Jalalain Kitab in the Kitab division from Quami Madrasa. A month ago, he was appointed as a teacher in Noorani division of Sonapur Sayedatul Abrar Madrasa of Noakhali district.

Mainul developed close connection with Sameer’s family while giving him lesson before going to Noakhali for job.
