Robin Joy Das, a young British Bangladeshi batsman, scored an unbeaten 200 for Essex County Cricket Club U16’s club side Wanstead CC in the Shepard Neame Premier League during the Essex Matchplay quarterfinal competition against Brentwood CC on July 15. His magnificent double century helped Wanstead CC beat Brentwood by 95 runs, according to a press release.
Robin scored an outstanding 200 not out as his side amassed 315-2. He put on 240 with Shahzaib Khan, who scored 59 not out. He went from 100 runs to 200 runs in 8 overs and scored 24 off the final over of the innings including a six of the last ball to ensure he achieved the club record milestone of 200 runs in a knockout competition.
His side now play Hainault & Clayhall in the Semi-Final next July 23, at Billericay CC.
Robin whose father hails from Sunamganj, is one of the most talented youth cricketers in London and has been seen as a future England batsmen. His brother Jonathan Das also played for Essex U17 and plays as the Wanstead CC first team wicketkeeper.
Robin plays his cricket at Wanstead CC who were formed in 1866. They have produced many England and Essex County cricketers over the past 150 years including James Foster, Fred Rumsey, Barry Knight, Maruice Chambers and more.
Essex CCC Board Director Jawar Ali said, “It is great to see British Bangladeshis playing cricket at the highest level in the UK. Many British Bangladeshis have wanted to represent Bangladesh, but due to lack of opportunity and no outreach from the BCB they have made their commitment to the UK and are challenging their way with dominant performance with the bat and ball. Robin Das will hopefully get his chance for Essex CCC first XI soon and hopefully will be an England player in the near future too.”
