7 mega projects likely to get Tk 29,675cr in FY19

Seven large projects are likely to get Tk 29,675 crore in the upcoming budget for financial year 2018-19 (FY19) for accelerating the implementation process of these ‘fast-track’ projects, reports BSS.

“The government will allocate for the mega projects as per their demand. We want to implement the mega projects within the scheduled time for the benefits of the economy,” Finance Secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury told the news agency.

The mega projects are Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Padma Bridge Rail link, Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar-Gundum Rail Line, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Matarbari Power Plant, Metro Rail and Payra sea Port.

A senior official of the finance ministry said the government would continue financing these projects on priority basis and monitor their implemen-

tation closely since the timely

implementation of the

projects will ensure proper infrastructure which will help boost industrialization across the country.

The senior official said the government will keep the highest allocation of about Tk 11,100 crore for the Rooppur Nuclear power plant to implement the project on scheduled for meeting the increasing demand for electricity.

He said the plant is expected to add 2,400MW electricity to the national grid by 2024.

The government is likely to allocate Tk 5,550 crore for the Padma Bridge Rail Link project, he informed.

The official said the Padma Multipurpose Bridge is building with the government own fund while all the other projects are implementing with the support of bilateral and multilateral partners such as China, Japan and the Asian Development Bank.

The Padma Multipurpose Bridge project is likely to get allocation of Tk 4,400 crore in the FY19, he added.

The other projects are Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar-Gundum Rail Line (Tk 1,450 crore), Matarbari power plant (Tk 2,775 crore), Dhaka’s Metro Rail (Tk 3,900 crore) and Payra Deep Sea Port (Tk 500 crore).

However, the official said, no allocation will be made for the three mega projects — Sonadia deep sea port, Rampal Power Plant and LNG terminal — as they are planned to be implemented on government-to-government (G2G) basis.
