The United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a regional political party in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), has alleged that two of its women leaders were abducted at gunpoint from the Kudukchchari residential area in Rangamati yesterday (Sunday). The two leaders were Monti Chakma and Doyasona Chakma, the general secretary and a member of the central committee of the Hills' Women Federation wing of the UPDF, repsectively.
A press release signed by Niron Chakma, publication and publicity secretary of the UPDF, has blamed UPDF (Democratic) for the abduction. It has also claimed that the miscreants shot a leader of Ganatantrik Juba Forum and set a student lodge on fire around the same time.
"The terrorists fired at the home of Darma Shing, a leader of Ganatantrik Juba Forum, around 9am on Sunday. Shing has suffered bullet injuries. The miscreants also set on fire a student lodge and kidnapped Monti Chakma and Doyasona Chakma," it mentioned. The press release called the attack "cowardly and disrespectful". About six months ago, some leaders of the UPDF launched UPDF (Democratic). Since then, at least six UPDF leaders have been killed.
