Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) in Gazipur celebrated their 12th founding anniversary yesterday through various programmes. In KUET, University Grant Commission (UGC) member Md Mohabbat Khan inaugurated the celebration programme as chief guest. Administrator of Zila Parishad, Khulna Sheikh Harunur Rashid was the special guest while Vice-Chancellor of KUET Muhammed Alamgir presided over the function. Teachers, students of the university brought out a procession from the administrative building that paraded the Phulbarigate area of Khulna city with colourful banner, festoon and placards. The daylong programmes, included hoisting national and university flags, blood donation, cultural function, re-union of students, teachers and employees of the university.
A discussion was also held at KUET auditorium. Chairman of founding anniversary observance committee-2015 also dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Shibendra Shekher Sikder was in the chair. Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Md Saiyed Ali Mollah, dean of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Faculty Md Nurunnabi Mollah and Director of Students’ Welfare of KUET GG Md Neowaj Ali spoke on the occasion. The main building and the roads on the campus were decorated with colourful lights while a milad mahfil was also held at the university mosque. The vice-chancellor Muhammed Alamgir, in a message hoped the university would emerge as the best institution of learning and researches.
Established in 1967 as Khulna Engineering College at Phulbarigate of Khulna city, the college was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) on July 1, 1986 and it turned into KUET on September 1, 2003.
Meanwhile, RUET celebrated 'university day' yesterday amid joy, enthusiasm and fanfare marking its 12th founding anniversary.
The founding day's programme began with the hoisting of national flag followed by plantation of tree saplings in the morning.
RUET Vice- chancellor Rafiqul Alam Beg opened the day-long programmes. Marking the day, a large number of teachers, students, officers and employees brought out a colourful procession that paraded through the campus. A discussion was also held on physical centre premises.
The other programmes included live concert, tree plantation, friendly cricket match, exhibition of projects innovated by the students. In the afternoon, a cultural function was held.
VC Prof Beg distributed prizes among the winners of competitions yesterday afternoon.
In DUET, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki inaugurated the celebration programmes releasing pigeons as the chief guest on the campus in Gazipur.
A colourfull procession was also brought out from the old academic building, led by the sate minister Chumki that was paraded the university campus.
Teachers, students officers and employees participated in the procession. Later, a discussion meeting was held at Shahid Ahsan Ullah Master Auditorium of the university presided over by the vice chancellor Mohammed Alauddin.
State Minister Chumki was the chief guest in the discussion while director (student welfare) Gonesh Chandra Saha, president of DUET teachers association Mohammed Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Gazipur SM Alam, spoke among others.
Dean of civil Engineering department Mohammed Nazrul Islam, dean of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department Mohammed Abul Kashem and dean of Mechanical Engineering department Hasan Mohammed Mostafa Afrouj were present in the programme.
Later, a cultural function was held. On September 01 in 2003, the government announced the than Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) as a public university named Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET).
It is the only higher educational institute of Bangladesh for diploma engineers who pass from different polytechnic institutes in the country.
