The government has formed the 9th wage board for the journalists and employees of newspapers and news agencies of the country, reports UNB. A gazette notification in this regard was published yesterday. The board, headed by Justice Md Nizamul Haque, a retired justice of the Supreme Court, will make recommendations about the salaries, allowances and other facilities of the journalists, employees and press workers after reviewing the 8th Wage Board Award.
It will also make suggestions about the journalists of electronic media after scrutinising legal aspects, said the notification. The wage board can submit a specific recommendation to the government to provide dearness allowance for the journalists and employees of the newspapers and news agencies during the interim period, if necessary.
The board will submit its recommendations to the government within six months, the notification adds.
The members of the board are President of Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (Noab) Matiur Rahman, its Vice-president AK Azad, Treasurer Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, and members Mahfuz Anam and Tasmima Hossain, Convener of Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Parishad MG Kibria Chowdhury, President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, its Secretary General Omar Faruque, President of Bangladesh Newspapers Workers Federation Matiur Rahman Talukdar and Secretary General M Khairul Islam, President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers Mohammad Alamgir Hossian Khan and its Secretary General Mohammad Kamal Uddin.
Joint Secretary (Press) of the Information Ministry M Mizan-ul-Alam will act as the secretary of the wage board, the notification said.
