Sexual harassment on female student protested

The students of Chittagong University (CU) yesterday formed a human chain on the campus yesterday protesting the alleged sexual harassment on female student by staff on Friday

The female student reportedly sexually harassed by on duty medical doctor when she went to Chittagong University Medical centre for treatment. At around 12pm in front of CU Shaheed Minar students of different institutions and departments under the banner 'Students of University of Chittagong’ demanded immediate punishment of the accused. Some teachers of the university expressed solidarity with the initiative.
Different organisations also expressed solidarity with the students and joined the human chain and procession, said the CU sources.
The protesting students also announced that they would submit a memorandum to vice-chancellor of the university.
“In the connection, the authority of the university formed a seven members probe committee, headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter, according to rule of Bangladesh University Grant Commission (UGC) yesterday morning,” said Liton Mitra, Assistant Proctor of CU. Prof Shirin Akhter, pro-vice chancellor of CU, acknowledging the matter said after investigation authorities will take step against the accused. On the other hand the accused doctor denied the allegation and said after having confirmation from the female student he started check-up on her.
Mentionable on March 10, a residential student of Chittagong University (CU) filed a written complaint to the proctor against a doctor of CU medical centre for allegedly grouping her during a check-up.
