The music world of Bangladesh has lost a shining star as audience-admired Nazrul Sangeet singer Salma Sultana breathed her last on Thursday (September 29) at 8pm. She passed away at Mirpur Kidney Foundation Hospital. She was 57 years old. Music director Shawkat Ali Emon, who is the younger brother of Salma Sultana, announced the news of his sister’s death. He informed that she has been battling kidney problems for six months. He said, “My sister has been suffering for a long time. About 21 years ago, she had a kidney transplant. Complications from that led to her suffering for the last six months. I ask everyone to pray for her departed soul.”
Salma Sultana is the sister of popular singers Rebeka Sultana and Abida Sultana. She also leaves behind her daughter, popular singer Alif Alauddin. Alif Alauddin also asked everyone to pray for the departed soul.
After her Janaza in Gulshan’s Azad Masjid on Friday after Jumma prayers, she was laid to rest in Banani graveyard.
