Criticising the government for its failure in signing the Teesta water sharing deal with India BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman on Friday alleged that the government is sacrificing the country’s interest to cling to power.

“Country’s people expected that Teesta deal would be signed during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister. But we came to know that government decided not to talk about it even before Modi’s visit. They did not place the issue during bilateral discussions. The government is sacrificing the country’s interest to cling to power,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion  at Jatiya Press Club.

Noman also alleged government has snatched people’s fundamental rights by snatching their voting rights.

Alleging that repression and torture on BNP leaders and activists through forced disappearance, abduction and killings sparked anger among common people the former minister said “All expectations of aggrieved people would be met ousting the oppressive government through ballot not through revolt or attacks.”

Observing that no rule of law is prevailing in the country Noman said “The government is moving towards one-party rule by killing democratic politics.”

He urged the government to give back people’s fundamental rights by announcing a mid-term poll immediately.

The BNP leader also urged countrymen to build up unit among them to stand against all repressions.

Chaired by Barrister Sayedul Hasan Iqbal , chairman of Bangladesh Islamic Party among others Jubo Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal and leaders of 20-Party alliance spoke on the occasion.UNB
