Bangladesh U-19 cricket team has qualified for the Super League Quarter Finals of the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup in the West Indies. They will take on India in their next match on January 29 at North Sound.
In the last group stage match on January 22, Bangladesh beat the UAE by a big margin of nine wickets in DL Method.
Bangladesh won the toss and sent the UAE to bat first who tumbled for 148 in 48.1 overs with Punya Mehra hitting the highest of 43 runs. Dhruv Parashar and captain Alishan Sharafu scored 33 and 23 respectively.
For Bangladesh, Ripon Mondol bagged three wickets conceding 31 runs in 9.1 overs while Ashiqur Zaman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib scalped two wickets each.
In reply, Bangladesh did not take any risk. They batted steadily and sealed the game with ease. They put up an opening stand of 86 runs— which has set a solid foundation for the Junior Tigers.
Iftakher Hossain fell for 37, but the other opener Mahfijul Islam scored 64 off 69 with six fours and two sixes to guide Bangladesh to a big win. The only wicket Bangladesh lost went to Jash Giyanani.
Bangladesh are the current world champions at the U-19 level. In the last World Cup in South Africa in 2020, Bangladesh beat India in the final to win their maiden cricket World Cup at any level.
Right before this World Cup, Bangladesh lost to India in the final of the U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE.
