Talented young director Abu Shahed Emon’s Oscar- nominated film, ‘Jalaler Golop’ (Jalal’s Story) won the ‘Best Debut Director’ award at the 20th International Film Festival of Kerala in India.
The film ‘Jalaler Golpo’ was screened at the festival to represent the Bangladeshi film and selected for the award by a four-member international jury headed by Brazilian filmmaker Julio Bressane. Emon was conferred with ‘Rajatha Chakoram’ (Silver Crow Pheasant Award) worth cash prize of Rs.200,000/- (about US$4,000) at an award giving ceremony on the concluding day of the Festival in Thiruvananthapuram, capital of southern Indian state of Kerala on Friday.
To note, earlier, the film ‘Jalaler Golop’ won two prominent awards in the ‘Avanca International Film Festival’ in Portugal. The film received the awards in Best Film and Best Actor categories in the 19th edition of the festival held from July 20 to July 26. Popular actor Mosharraf Karim, one of the key casts in the film, won the Best Actor award in the festival, while the film itself was awarded the Best Film of the festival.
Besides , the film also enjoyed its world premiere in the main competitive category ‘New Current’ of the festival. In addition, the film was also screened as the only Bangladeshi film at the International Film Festival of India 2014’ (IFFI) in Goa, India.
