Rani Sarkar, a national award winning film actress, died of old-age complications at Eden Multicare Hospital in the city at around 4 am today.
Rani Sarkar, whose real name was Mossamat Amirun Nessa Khanam, was born at Shonatol village in Shatkhira’s Kaliganj upazila.
Her acting career began as a stage performer in 1958. In the same year, Rani got her first break in AJ Kardar’s film ‘Dur Hai Shukh Ka Gao’.
The body of Rani Sarkar was taken to Channel i office at 2 pm to pay tribute to the actress. From there, the body was taken to FDC where her namaz-e-janaza was held, Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association General Secretary Zayed Khan said.
She will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard, Khan added. In 2016, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provided her with financial support worth Taka 20 lakh. The same year, she received life time achievement award for her contribution in the film industry of the country.BSS.
