‘Ankhi O Tar Bondhura’ to be screened at Public Library today

Noted filmmaker Morshedul Islam-directed children’s film ‘Ankhi O Tar Bondhura’ (Ankhi & her Friends) from Bangladesh will be screened today at 6pm at the Central Public Library in the capital, as a part of the ongoing weeklong ‘11th International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh’.

Festival being held at six different venues in capital

Based on a popular novel by Muhammad Zafar Iqbal with the same title, ‘Akhi O Tar Bondhura’ has been produced by Impress Telefilm.

It is the story of Ankhi, a blind girl who comes to study in a general school. With support from a new headmistress, Dr Raisa, her classmates Titu and others, Ankhi feels included.

When the students go to Bandarban to celebrate their victory as champions in a school cricket tournament, they are caught by human traffickers. However, because of their smartness and bravery, they manage to escape and get the criminals arrested.

Ankhi's story inspires other specially-abled children to join the school.

Zahin Nawar Haque plays the role of Ankhi. The other important cast members include seasoned actors Suborna Mustafa, Tariq Anam Khan, Al Mansur, SM Mohsin, Mannan Hira, Munira Yousuf Memi and Sushmita Sinha.

On the other hand, Public Library will also screen short films-‘Hero Steps’ from Colombia, ‘The Chocolate’ from Iran, ‘Shala’ from Brazil and ‘Pet Peeved’ from United States at 11am, while ‘Wimming in the Dessert’ from United States, ‘Antenna’ from Iraq, ‘Mars 3752’ from France, ‘Little Manaschy’ from Kyrgyzstan, ‘Muskaan’ from India, ‘The Door’ from Spain, ‘Her First Time’ from India, ‘Our Wonderful Nature’ from Germany and ‘Test of Courage’ from Germany at 2pm and ‘Turtle’ from Hungary, ‘Wallay’ from France, and ‘The Free Spirit’ from Bangladesh at 4pm.

The festival also being held at five other venues simultaneously, such as National Museum in Shahbag, Alliance Française de Dhaka in Dhanmondi, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha, British Council on Fuller Road and Goethe Institut in Dhanmondi.

With the slogan ‘Frame Frame Agamir Swapno’ (Future in Frames), Children Film Society (CFS) Bangladesh has organised the festival aimed to provide the children a basic idea on film to create their interests in the media and to understand its role to build awareness on different social issues through entertainment.
