Second night belongs to Nooran Sisters

Thousands of audiences, who filled up all empty space and each corner of the venue, were waiting for the much-awaited performance of Nooran Sisters. Finally, the wait was over, and celebrated Sufi singers Nooran sisters, Jyoti Nooran and Sultana Nooran, from Sham Chaurasia Gharana took the stage at around 11pm. As they appeared on the stage, the audience gave them a big round of applause. In return, the sister duo gave a soulful performance on the second day of the Dhaka International Folk Fest 2017 at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital on Friday night.
Presented by Meril, the three-day festival is powered by Dhaka Bank and organised by Sun Communications Ltd.
The Nooran sisters opened the night with a rendition of Bhari Jau Re, they enthralled audience with their touching performance of Ishq Awalla, Kulli Faqeer Di and Patakha Guddi. They were the final performers of the night.
Earlier in the evening, the second day of the third edition of Dhaka International Folk Fest started with the performance of Baula, a band of young members from Bangladesh. Began with Amare Chhariare Bondhu, they satisfied the audience with their fascinating rendition of songs like Tomare Ami Paite Pari, Robe Na Dhon Jibon Joubone, Eto Je Nisthur Jana Chhilo Na and finally, Kemone Rakho Go Felia.
After Baula, Arif Dewan from Bangladesh, the lyricist of 500 folk songs, performed his songs like Ghuddi Ke Banailo Re, Shato Janam Birohogatha and others.
The third performance of the night includes Kutumba, a band from Nepal. Their exceptional performance elevated the hearts of the audience to the music of Nepal. Acclaimed performers of the Coke Studio, Kutumba used many of long-established native instruments during their performance.
Then, members of Mekaal Hasan Band (MHB) from Pakistan, accompanied by Armeen Musa and her band Ghashphoring from Bangladesh, took the stage. Sharmistha Chatterjee of MHB performed the songs like Chal Bulleya, Aashiq Awara, Sanwal, Jhak Ranjhan, Ghunghat and Andholan.
Shahjahan Munshi and his troupe performed several baul songs before the Nooran Sisters came on the stage. The entire stadium was calm and quiet as everyone was listening to the blind singer who delivered the messages of peace, harmony and equality to the world through their performance. The powerful performance includes Tumi Achho Bole Doyal, Ekbar Ese Praner Bondhu Dekha Dao, E Ki Premer Pratidan and others.
Besides, Basudeb Das Baul from India, Rastak from Iran, Grammy Winner Tinariwen from Mali and Mikael Hemniti Winther from Denmark performed on the concluding day yesterday.
