Iranian theatre troupe Verbatim will stage their theatrical production ‘Manus’ at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital at 7pm today. The play will be brought to the stage as a part of the ongoing weeklong international theatre festival titled ‘Pushpa O Mongal Utsab’ (Flower and Bliss International Theatre Festival) organised by theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal to celebrate the 45th founding anniversary of the troupe.
Directed by Fatemeh Samamizadeh, the play depicts that eight Iranian Refugees had planned to go to Australia illegally, and they have been stocked in Manus and Nauru prisons. Each of these persons describes their memory and reminiscences about their own personal reasons of leaving Iran and also about pressures in the way of reaching Australia with detail of problems inside the prisons. Manus is the name of the island that refugees have been exiled and prisoned since 2013 from Australia.
On the other hand, Kolkata-based theatre troupe Aynda will bring their play ‘Anushochona’ on stage at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA at the same time.
Before staging the plays, ‘Aranyak Dipu Memorial Award’ will be conferred today at the Seminar Room of BSA at 5pm.
