Maiden BIMSTEC film festival kicks off today

The first ever BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Scrotal Technical and Economic Cooperation) film festival will begin today in Dhaka.    

The five-day film festival will be organised by the Rainbow Film Society in association with the BIMSTEC at its secretariat office in Gulshan to mark the its 20th founding anniversary.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will attend the inaugural programme on the opening day as the chief guest, while State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam will be present as a special guest.

A total of 16 films from seven countries will be screened in the festival. Of those, four will be Bangladeshi films, four Indian, two Myanmarese, two Nepalese, two Thai, one Sri Lankan and one Bhutanese.

‘Anil Baghchir Ek Din’- a film written by noted writer-filmaker Humayun Ahmed and directed by Morshedul Islam will be screened on the inaugural day, today at 2pm.

Centring on the Liberation War of Bangladesh, the film ‘Anil Bagchir Ekdin’ is produced under the banner of Bengal Creations. The film was shot in Dhaka and other different locations of the country.

Aref Syed plays the role of Anil Bagchi, while Jyotika Jyoti shares the screen as Anil’s sister in the film. Other important casts of the film include Gazi Rakayet, Farhana Mithu, Shahidul Alam Sachchu, A.M. Mohsin, Khalilur Rahman Quaderi and Misha Shawdagar, among others. Popular musician Sani Jubayer has directed the music for the film.

Besides, ‘Kushuthara’ (Pattern of Love)—a Bhutanese film directed by Karma Deki will be screened at 4pm and Myanmar film ‘By Coincidence’will be screened at 6pm.

Three films will be screened a day of the five-day programme.

The other three Bangladeshi films include Amitabh Reza’s ‘Aynabaji’, Reazul Mawla Rezu’s ‘Bapjaner Bioscope’ and Tauquir Ahmed’s ‘Oggyatonama’.
