Posthumous video of Bangladeshi IS militant released

US-based SITE Intelligence website has released an Islamic State (IS) video and said that the man appearing in the video is a Bangladeshi national. According to the SITE, the IS affiliate Furat Media released the posthumous video of the militant bomber, primarily identified as Neaz Morshed, calling on his Muslim countrymen to immigrate for jihad or carry out lone-wolf attacks in Bangladesh. According to the Furat Media, Neaz was killed in a bombing in Tikrit of Iraq in 2015. The SITE Intelligence Group also tweeted a message about the posthumous video early yesterday but did not give any details on the man. When contacted, Major Mehedi Hasan, deputy commanding officer of RAB-3, said they were working to establish the identity of the person appeared in the IS video.
However, another senior RAB official said preferring anonymity that the man was indeed Neaz Morshed, who appeared on the elite force’s list of missing persons published last year.
Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari police station Belal Mohammad Jahangir said they had no information about Neaz and his activities.
According to sources, Neaz, of Hathazari upazila in Chittagong, was a student of Sunshine Grammar School and College in Chittagong and later studied in Deakin University, Australia.
His name appeared on the 192nd spot on the RAB list of 261 missing persons published on July 20, last year.
The RAB, however, dropped the name from the revised list of 68 persons on July 26 the same year.
