Sanzamul aims to cement his place in nat’l team

Sanzamul Islam

Left-arm spinner Sanzamul Islam shot into limelight when he showcased his scintillating performance with bat and ball in the just concluded franchisee-based Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
Islam grabbed his career-best of 9-80 along with slammed three big scores of 131, 173 and 114 on the trot.
He got maiden call from the national team for the three-match One Day International series against the hosts Sri Lanka as its reward.
The left-arm spinner grabbed 25 wickets just from five round games of the longer version league for BCB North Zone, who emerged the new league champions for the 2017-2018 season.
He also performed well in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Dhaka Dynamites, who also lifted the BPL maiden title last year. The spinner scalped six wickets off 12 matches with the best figures of 2-17.
Yesterday he expressed his feeling to media what happened after getting the first call from the board.
“While it was informed me from the board that I got call from the national team I was too much excited. My relatives, friends and family members were calling to wish me. Actually I was too much thrilled,” said Sanzamul Islam.
Tipping it as a great feeling, the 27-year-old spinner said that every player has a dream of playing for the national team what I did and now it is the next challenge for me to restore my position in the team.
“Every player has a dream of playing for the national team and represents the country at international stage. Now cricket becomes very much competitive. My target is to give my best possible effort to perform for the team if I get chance. Along with that, I will try to cement my position in the team,” Rajshahi-born spinner said.
Sanzamul said that he will attempt to replicate his domestic performance in Sri Lanka so that he could start his international footstep with success.
“The performance I showcased in the domestic cricket I will try to replicate it in Sri Lanka. If I could do it, I hope, I will also get success in international stage,” the new spinner said.
“I bowled well in BPL. Following the NCL, I played in BCL, where my performance has been better, which actually help me enter into the national squad. I got nine wickets in an innings but that was not my plan. When I got three wickets then I fixed target to claim five wickets. In this way, I got nine wickets,” he also said.
Citing the one day as his favourite format of game, the spin all-rounder said, “I preferred one day more than other formats of games.”
“As so far I know, the condition in Sri Lanka is similar to us. My plan is to see the match and take the idea of the wicket and condition as much as possible. Then if I get chance to play the match I will try to execute the plan of the team management,” he told newsmen.
Before stepping into the national side, he was part of the BCB’s exclusive High Performance (HP) training programme. He like other players worked hard, which paved his way for the national fold.
“I had to work hard in the conditioning camp of High Performance. It helps me perform in the domestic leagues and tournaments,” he though.
