‘Uttarer Sur’ to be screened at BSA tomorrow

National film award winning film ‘Uttarer Sur’, directed by Shahnewaz Kakoli, has been selected for the screening for the month of March as a part of the yearlong film festival titled ‘New Films, New Filmmakers’. Moviyana Film Society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) have jointly organised the festival, which has been continued since last 11 months.  As many as 13 films in four categories, those have been selected from the total submissions for this month, will be screened tomorrow at the auditorium of National Art Plaza of BSA, Segun Bagicha in the city. Among those, the full-length feature film ‘Uttarer Sur’ will be screened at 6:30 pm. Produced by Impress Telefilm, the story of the film ‘Uttarer Sur’ revolves around life of a singer and her little daughter, who sing (and beg) in the street to earn their living. The film shows their everyday experiences. Released on April 14 in 2012, the film stars Meghla, Utpal, Lucy Tripti Gomes, Biplob Prasad and others. The film has also been screened in different international film festivals like– Goa International Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival (2012), Third Eye Mumbai Film Festival (in Mumbai).
Led by noted filmmaker Syed Salauddin Zaki, a seven-member jury board selected the films among the submitted films from March 1 to 10. The selected nine short films are—‘Backbone’ directed by Shakti Banik, ‘The Legacy’ by Kamrun Nahar, ‘No God’ by Ram Krisna Saha, ‘The Crescent Pain’ by Miraj Mrrittik, ‘Anchor’ by Sakya Saheed, ‘Nari O Bahon: Keo Karo Noy’ by Binu Mahbuba, ‘Flowers in the Nacked City’ by Sumaiya Islam, ‘Wake Up’ by Faridul Ahsan Sourav, ‘Upside Down’ by Adri Hridayesh  will be screened at 3pm. One animation film titled ‘Rhythm of Ryhme’ directed by Shariful Alam and one documentary film ‘To Define a Bad Girl’ by Sharmin Shams will also be screened at the same time at the same venue. Another documentary film ‘1 Death = 3 Acres of Land’ directed by Jahid Gagan will be screened at 5pm.
