Laxmipur: Police in a pre-dawn raid seized 40 maunds of hilsa fries from a truck in Laxmipur bus terminal area and sentenced four fishermen on Monday, reports BSS.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Laxmipur Sadar thana police intercepted a Dhaka bound hilsa fries laden truck at Lakshmipur bus terminal and seized 40 maunds of fries. Police also arrested four fishermen from the truck.
Later, the arrested persons were produced before a mobile court of executive magistrate and sadar upazila Nirbahi officer Mohammad Nuruzzaman. The court sentenced them to one year imprisonment each.
The convicts were Mohammad Nirab and Mohammad Ibrahim of Bhola district and Mohammad Kamal and Rasheedul Islam of Dinajpur district.
The seized fries were distributed among the poor and orphanages of Laxmipur town in presence of officials of Fisheries Department, police said.
