Bridge lying unused for lack of approach roads
A concrete bridge, constructed over the Narasunda River last year, in Austagram upazila of Kishoreganj has been lying largely unutilised as there is no connecting road built as yet. The RCC girder bridge on Sapanto Bajuri-Bajuri road in the upazila was built to connect Bajuri, Chowddonto Pashimhati, Chowddonto Borohati and Chowddonto Purbohati villages. The construction was completed in April, 2014 at a cost of Tk 20 lakh. Around 12,000 people of the villages can use this bridge if the approach roads are built on both sides. “We have not been able to use the bridge for the last one year due to absence of approach roads. We still have to use a bamboo bridge, built by the villagers,” said Rajib Chandra Das of Bajuri village in Austagram. “It is a matter of regret that we have to go from one village to another crossing the river by boat in spite of the presence of bridge,” said villager Md Shaheen Alam. When contacted, Azizur Rahman, assistant engineer of LGED office in Kishoreganj, said they have written to the higher authorities for fund to build the approach roads on both sides of the bridge. Floating of tenders are under process, he added.
